Customer Laser Cut Acrylic, ABS and Wooden Parts
We frequently laser cut acrylic (perspex), ABS, Polypropylene, HIPS and woods such as plywood and MDF for our customers. Every material has its own pro and cons, and we feel that we have enough experience to offer the right advice on suitable materials and processes for the job. The high level of precision offered by CNC laser cutting means that the parts you receive back are the parts your CAD drawings required.
Both cast and extruded acrylic can be supplied in a wide range of colour combinations, finishes and thickness. A great choice for jobs that require a certain aestheticsuch as wall signage for example. ABS plastic, (or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), is a strong, durable, and impact-resistant thermoplastic known for its versatility. We frequently laser cut ABS parts for products that will receive a bit of wear and tear, such as chain guards or impact panels.
Polypropylene is again a flexible plastic that is especially good for applications that require a great deal of bending and flexing. Sheet material thickness is limited, but it it a good material for clean application, (we used a great deal of this material during the Covid 19 period, for face guards).
High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is a tough low cost plastic. HIPS plastic material is often used for retail point of sale applications and signage where ease of fabrication is essential.
Finally, we can laser cut both plywoods and MDF up to a thickness of 9-12mm, (CNC routing is better for thicker sheets due to the heat build up). MDF is a good low cost sheet material, which can be painted, or even veneered with hardwoods such as oak, maple, walnut etc. Again there are multiple applications for laser cut wooden parts, sometimes practical and sometimes aesthetic.
If you need advice on suitable materials, or you have a project in mind, we would love to hear from you.
